The Hassayampa Canyon & Weaver Mountains

Take off from Wickenburg Municipal Airport and head east over the town of Wickenburg. Follow the Hassayampa River north past Box Canyon and the narrow slot beyond. Then fly up the narrow, twisting canyons where the Hassayampa cuts through the Weaver Mountains. We’ll fly over Walnut Grove, the site of the dam that broke in the late 1800s, killing dozens of workers and flooding Wickenburg. Then over the east side of the Weaver Mountains to Peeples Valley and Yarnell. We’ll make an exciting descent from Yarnell Hill, dropping 2,000 feet in less than two minutes. If we have time, we’ll swing past the north end of Congress or past the ghost town of Stanton. From there, it’s a quick flight over the desert to Wickenburg Airport.
