In an effort to continue growing its business, Flying M Air has relocated its helicopter to Phoenix, AZ. Starting in September 2009, the company will be operating out of Deer Valley Airport (DVT) in north Phoenix. Flying M Air will continue to offer flights from other Phoenix-area airports, including Scottsdale, Glendale, and Sky Harbor, but will discontinue tours and day trips from Wickenburg.
The move to Phoenix has dramatically cut costs to operate from Phoenix-area airports. Flying M Air no longer has a one-hour round trip ferry flight between Wickenburg and the Phoenix area. As a result, the company is able to cut its prices on tours and day trips from Phoenix, making them more attractive to potential clients and Phoenix-area hotel concierges looking for interesting activities for guests.
“Keeping the helicopter based in Wickenburg was bad for business,” says Flying M Air’s Chief Pilot, Maria Langer. “There’s virtually no customer base up there and the cost of flying down to Phoenix for our customers was forcing us to price our services much higher than our competition. Now, with the helicopter conveniently based at Deer Valley, we can service all of Phoenix more cost-effectively.”
The resulting change in Flying M Air’s pricing structure was dramatic. An hour-long tour of Phoenix that was $795 for up to 3 passengers is now only $495. Day trips to Sedona that previously sold for $1,495 are now $1,295.
“The helicopter is now based at an executive jet center,” Langer says. “It’s in a clean, insulated and secure hangar. The manager of the facility is anxious to help us promote our services. And best of all, I don’t have to drag the helicopter in and out of the hangar anymore. There’s a line staff to do it for me!”
